Surry Hills Village Wins Development of the Year
RTA is proud to have contributed to Surry Hills Village, which has been awarded Development of the Year – Mixed Use at the Urban Developer Awards for Industry Excellence 2026.
A decade in the making, Surry Hills Village has transformed a significant inner-city site into one of Sydney's most vibrant mixed-use destinations. Bringing together heritage restoration, contemporary architecture, hospitality, retail, residential and commercial spaces, the precinct demonstrates the power of thoughtful planning and multidisciplinary collaboration in creating places that people genuinely enjoy experiencing.
From an acoustic perspective, projects of this scale and complexity present unique challenges. The integration of restaurants, bars, retail tenancies, hotel accommodation, workplaces and residential living within a single precinct requires careful acoustic design to ensure each use can operate successfully while maintaining occupant comfort and amenity both on site and at neighbouring receivers.
RTA provided specialist acoustic consulting services throughout the project, working closely with the wider design team to help manage the interaction between the precinct's diverse uses. Our involvement supported the creation of environments where hospitality venues can thrive, residents can enjoy a high standard of living, hotel guests can experience comfort and privacy, and commercial tenants can benefit from productive workplace environments.
The award-winning development features Wunderlich Lane, the precinct's central pedestrian spine, alongside The EVE Hotel Sydney, destination dining venues, retail offerings, premium residences and commercial workplaces. Achieving the right balance between vibrancy and amenity across these interconnected spaces required a considered acoustic approach from the earliest stages of design through to project delivery.
This national recognition reflects the vision and commitment of TOGA and the many consultants, contractors and project partners who helped bring Surry Hills Village to life. We are pleased to have collaborated with an exceptional consultant team, contributing our expertise to a project that has set a new benchmark for mixed-use development and urban renewal in Sydney.
